There has been a long association between the discipline and joy of gardening and that of prayer and modern spiritual life. But hitherto these have not been explored in any depth. The author shows that flowers, trees, herbs and shrubs are intrinsically linked to our spirituality. In good times and in troubled times, the garden, whatever its size, even a window-box collection of one’s own favourite herbs, can evoke calm and provide an oasis for contemplation and healing.
